The Good Food Nation (Scotland) Bill

Letter from the Convener to the Conveners of the Health, Social Care and Sport Committee; Equalities, Human Rights and Civil Justice Committee; and the Local Government, Housing and Planning Committee, 21 January 2022

Dear Convener,

The Good Food Nation (Scotland) Bill

The Rural Affairs, Islands and Natural Environment Committee (RAINEC) is currently considering the Good Food Nation (Scotland) Bill at Stage 1.

Following the Bills introduction, the Committee launched a call for views which concluded on 5 January. A number of responses, including the submission from the Scottish Food Coalition, suggested the Health, Social Care and Sport Committee, the Equalities, Human Rights and Civil Justice Committee and the Local Government, Housing and Planning Committee input into the scrutiny of the Bill, given its relevance to their remits.

The RAINEC agreed to highlight this suggestion to your committee.

More details regarding the RAINEC stage 1 inquiry is attached in the annexe to this letter. I appreciate that timescales are tight but, if you and your members did want to comment on the Bill, we would welcome any comments prior to the Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and Islands giving evidence on 23 February.

Yours sincerely

Finlay Carson MSP

Convener of the Rural Affairs, Island and Natural Environment Committee
