GMB Workers in East Dunbartonshire Back Strike Action

  • Submitted by: Ross Greer, West Scotland, Scottish Green Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 24 April 2018
  • Motion reference: S5M-11822

That the Parliament understands that GMB members at East Dunbartonshire Council have overwhelmingly voted to back industrial action; believes that this is in response to what it sees as the council leadership’s recent attacks on workers’ terms and conditions, including a three-day cut in annual leave and a major reduction in the terms of workers who face redundancy; believes that such moves are a cynical attempt by the new administration to undermine employees; notes that, in March 2018, a number of the local authority's schools were closed following strike action by the NASUWT, and calls for the council to change its approach and for it to engage with the unions to agree an approach that is based on protecting and defending workers' rights.
