  • Date lodged: Monday, 25 November 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-15593

That the Parliament congratulates the folk singer, Iona Fyfe, on her election as the new rector of the University of Aberdeen; notes that Iona was elected following a vote of the students and will serve a three-year term; recognises what it believes is the importance of the rector in acting as a voice for the student body in the university court; notes that, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Iona helped to found the group, Oor Vyce, which campaigns for the legal recognition of the Scots language, including the Doric variant; understands that Iona has outlined a range of areas on which she wishes to pursue improved university policies, including student mental health, housing and safety, funding for sports and addressing the climate crisis, and wishes Iona all the best for her term as rector.
