Kirkwall City Pipe Band to Receive The King's Award for Voluntary Service

  • Submitted by: Liam McArthur, Orkney Islands, Scottish Liberal Democrats.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 18 November 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-15496

That the Parliament congratulates Kirkwall City Pipe Band on being named as a recipient of The King's Award for Voluntary Service; understands that this award is a prestigious honour awarded to volunteer-led groups, with the list of recipients published every year on The King’s birthday; further understands that the award is a equivalent to being appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) and is awarded for life; notes that the Kirkwall City Pipe Band was founded over 100 years ago, and today is a thriving sociable organisation in which both established and beginner pipers and drummers are welcome; celebrates what it considers to be this richly deserved award, which it believes is a testament to the outstanding service of members of the Kirkwall City Pipe Band both past and present in serving the Orkney community, and thanks the band and its members for all that they do in enriching community life in Orkney.
