The Changing Rooms, Motherwell FC

  • Submitted by: Clare Adamson, Motherwell and Wishaw, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 14 November 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-15441

That the Parliament welcomes the launch of The Changing Rooms, which is a new initiative from Motherwell FC, in partnership with the Scottish Action for Mental Health (SAMH), aimed at providing men aged 16 and over with the opportunity to talk about football and mental health; acknowledges that the project, which began on 7 November 2024 at Fir Park Stadium, seeks to break down barriers surrounding mental health conversations and create a supportive, open environment for participants to share their experiences and support one another; recognises what it sees as the vital role of football clubs, such as Motherwell FC, in promoting positive mental health and wellbeing within communities and the wider society; applauds the club’s commitment to tackling the stigma around mental health through this innovative partnership with SAMH; believes that there is a growing need for accessible mental health support for men, particularly in settings that are familiar and comfortable; commends the initiative’s aim to provide a safe and non-judgmental space where individuals can talk openly, and encourages other sports clubs and organisations across Scotland to follow Motherwell FC’s example in prioritising mental health support and creating inclusive, welcoming spaces for conversation and wellbeing.
