1333 Grangemouth Spitfire Squadron Joins Forces with the GLitter Team to Clean Up Spitfire Memorial

  • Submitted by: Michelle Thomson, Falkirk East, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 14 November 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-15419

That the Parliament recognises the efforts of the 1333 Grangemouth Spitfire Squadron Air Cadets, who teamed up with the fellow community-minded group, the gLitter team, on 26 October 2024 to clean the local Spitfire memorial; notes that the squadron and gLitter team received assistance with their mission from Falkirk Council’s environmental team and members of the local Rotary Club of Grangemouth; recognises that the endeavours of the 1333 Grangemouth Air Cadets brought the memorial to Bo’ness Road in 2013 following years of fundraising and campaigning; notes that the memorial is a tribute to the young men based at RAF Grangemouth during the Second World War to train as Spitfire pilots, with an aim to defend the skies from the German Luftwaffe, and with several losing their life in training accidents at the airfield, and recognises and celebrates the effort of the 1333 Grangemouth Squadron for its contribution to organising this clean-up event with like-minded volunteers to ensure that the memorial was ready for a local Remembrance Day ceremony.
