Congratulations to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary

  • Submitted by: Kevin Stewart, Aberdeen Central, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 08 November 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-15349

That the Parliament congratulates Aberdeen Royal Infirmary (ARI) on receiving the Myeloma UK Clinical Service Excellence Programme (CSEP) Award in recognition of outstanding care and dedication to patients with myeloma; notes that myeloma is an incurable blood cancer, affecting around 24,000 people across the UK, which is especially hard to spot due to its symptoms often being vague and dismissed as ageing or other minor conditions; further notes that Myeloma UK is the only UK charity focused on myeloma and its related conditions, providing support and influencing access to treatments while researching a cure; understands that the team at ARI received this award for going above and beyond to deliver the best treatment and care for people with myeloma, particularly its myeloma clinics that are offered to patients who are newly diagnosed, relapsed or stable on treatment, which are led by clinical nurse specialists Fiona Butler and Laura Simpson, as well as the close working relationships established with other specialities in the hospital that ensure coordinated care for patients who have heart or kidney complications as a result of their myeloma or AL amyloidosis; believes that this award is a testament to the outstanding and bespoke care that patients with myeloma receive at ARI, and hopes that the team is rightly proud of achieving this accolade.
