  • Date lodged: Thursday, 07 November 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-15292

That the Parliament recognises and celebrates the 10th Diwali Celebration held in Edinburgh on 3 November 2024; understands that it was organised by the Edinburgh Diwali Committee under the leadership of President Rajnish Singh; notes that it began with a parade from St George Square to Castle Street and was led by the Scottish Regiment band and dance groups showcasing traditional Indian and Peruvian music and dance; further notes that this was followed by performances at the Ross Bandstand in Princes Street Gardens, featuring Indian classical, Bollywood and Scottish Highland dances, and concluding with a fireworks display; commends the efforts of the committee and volunteers who organised and ensured the success of the event, which brought together people of different backgrounds in cultural exchange and recognised the shared values of darkness over light; acknowledges the support of the local authorities and sponsors, which, it believes, made this event a success, and affirms its support for cultural inclusivity and diversity.
