  • Submitted by: Jackie Dunbar, Aberdeen Donside, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 04 November 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-15188

That the Parliament congratulates Aberdeen Taexali on celebrating a double success, winning both the Jim Reily Memorial Cup and the Alan Reynolds Memorial Shield at the 19th Annual Caledonian Thebans Rugby Clinic; notes that 25 LGBTQ+ inclusive clubs from across the world participated in the two-day clinic, which took place under the shadows of Murrayfield Stadium; recognises that Aberdeen Taexali joined forces with Manchester Village Spartans to create two teams to allow players to compete at a level they felt comfortable with, while still facing a challenge from opposing teams; understands that Aberdeen Taexali, who are the north east’s only all-inclusive rugby team, were founded in 2018 and train weekly at the Woodside Sports Complex, with sessions open to anyone aged 18 or over irrespective of their experience in playing the sport; notes that Aberdeen Taexali’s mission is to help break down barriers that exist for people who ordinarily might not get involved in sport, whether that be because of sexual orientation, race, gender, age or prior rugby experience; congratulates the club’s double success, and wishes it all the best for the future.
