  • Submitted by: Gillian Mackay, Central Scotland, Scottish Green Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 07 November 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-15160

That the Parliament acknowledges Occupational Therapy Week 2024, which is taking place from 4 November 2024; recognises what it sees as the invaluable contribution made by occupational therapists in Scotland's health and social care sector, accounting for more than 4,000 employees; believes that the profession brings extensive benefits through delivering holistic, person-centred care in all the areas where occupational therapists work, including improving hospital discharge and services in acute care, social care, primary care, housing, education, justice and mental health settings; considers that occupational therapists have a key role to play in the prevention and early intervention agenda as well as supporting citizens through their rehabilitation journey and working with people in the community, from birth to end-of-life care; commends the Royal College of Occupational Therapists for publishing its first workforce strategy in March 2024, which, it believes, provides a clear vision for the profession; notes its gratitude to occupational therapists for their service, and calls on the Scottish Government to look closely at workforce planning for occupational therapists to ensure that this workforce is supported, sustainable and fit for the future.
