Scotland’s Property Market

  • Submitted by: John Mason, Glasgow Shettleston, Independent.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 25 October 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-15039

That the Parliament notes the recent data from Rightmove’s Speed of Market Tracker, which highlights Scotland reportedly being home to the fastest moving property markets in the UK; acknowledges that Carluke in Lanarkshire has been named the UK’s quickest-selling market, with properties selling in an average of just 15 days, followed closely by Giffnock and Uddingston; believes that, despite concerns around the Land and Buildings Transaction Tax (LBTT), the property market in Scotland remains robust, with demand in many areas outstripping supply; welcomes what it sees as this positive reflection of Scotland’s economic resilience and housing market strength, particularly in commuter areas around Glasgow, and commends what it believes is the contribution of excellent amenities, strong transport links and top performing schools to the ongoing desirability of these areas.
