National Trustees’ Week and Borders Community Action

  • Submitted by: Rachael Hamilton, Ettrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 25 October 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-15038

That the Parliament celebrates the achievements and contributions of voluntary sector trustees across the Scottish Borders, especially during National Trustees’ Week; considers that the work of around 5,000 trustees across nearly 1,000 voluntary organisations allows communities and individuals to benefit from services, care, community events and the provision of food, clothing and employability and other essential activities that support mental, physical and economic wellbeing; believes that there is a critical and urgent need to recruit and retain trustees across the Scottish Borders; urges employers to encourage their staff to take up these vital roles in local organisations, and encourages links with Borders Community Action, as the third sector interface, to ensure that organisations can be matched with trustees and volunteers.
