  • Submitted by: Finlay Carson, Galloway and West Dumfries, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 25 October 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-15018

That the Parliament congratulates Scotland's Rural College (SRUC) on reaching a truly defining moment in the history of the organisation in officially gaining taught degree awarding powers; believes that this milestone is rare in Scotland and not granted lightly; acknowledges that this hugely significant accomplishment means it can now award taught higher education qualifications, including degrees and taught Masters; understands that its degrees will represent all that is SRUC's core sustainability, natural capital, agriculture, food, land use and environmental expertise; believes that will produce a workforce with the skills to drive a green economy and strategic collaboration; acknowledges that gaining taught degree awarding powers is the result of years of dedication and hard work under the leadership of Professor Wayne Powell, the college principal and chief executive; believes that the SRUC is about to make history by launching the first new vet school in Scotland for 150 years, and wishes SRUC's lecturers, staff and students continued success in the coming years.
