Scottish Retail Consortium Launches a Plan For Nature Campaign

  • Submitted by: Maurice Golden, North East Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 08 October 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-14827

That the Parliament commends the Scottish Retail Consortium and its sister, British Retail Consortium, for launching a Plan For Nature campaign and programme of events to help the retail industry's journey towards comprehensive industry-wide action on nature and biodiversity; understands that this follows the publication earlier in 2024 of their guide for shopkeepers on measuring their impact on nature and minimising biodiversity loss, which was developed in the context of emerging international and domestic frameworks and reporting requirements; further understands that the campaign and programme of support for retailers includes webinars, in-person events and roundtables on understanding the challenges, developing strategies, as well as benchmarking to assist with target setting and achieving objectives; notes that this will include the industry’s inaugural Nature Day on 28 November 2024, including as part of the retail industry’s existing net zero by 2040 ambition, and commends this effort to encourage retailers to place nature-positive action at the heart of their business strategies and operations, and, ultimately, it believes, improve their long-term resilience and success.
