Hospice Care Week 2024

  • Submitted by: Alexander Stewart, Mid Scotland and Fife, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 08 October 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-14824

That the Parliament welcomes Hospice Care Week; understands that, from 7 to 13 October 2024, the awareness week is a chance to commemorate hospice care nationwide and what it sees as the tireless, dedicated work being done by everyone in the sector to ensure that everyone can benefit from the very best end-of-life care; further understands that all of Scotland’s hospices rely on fundraising to keep their doors open and keep caring for people; acknowledges the charitable fundraising activities that many members of the public take part in, such as bake sales, fun-runs, abseiling, skydiving and second-hand clothing sales, which are all funding what it sees as essential services; believes that, despite the support of loyal communities, hospices are under huge financial pressure and are struggling to meet rising costs; commends the work of Hospice UK, which it believes is the national champion for hospices, as well as all hospices themselves on the fantastic work that it considers they do, and congratulates everyone involved, both in hospices and those fundraising outside, on their sterling work for the benefit of others.
