That the Parliament welcomes what it sees as the exciting 2025 programme of events for the Big Burns Supper, which was announced by the event organisers, Electric Theatre Workshop, on 30 September 2024 and is scheduled to run from 17 January to 2 February; understands that headlining the Loreburne Hall will be the acclaimed band, Wet Wet Wet, which will be supported by the Dumfries legends, The Lutras; notes that the Scottish singer and songwriter, Eddi Reader, will join the local artists, Claire Hastings and Grant Dinwiddie, and a host of talent from the area, for a Burns Supper on Burns Night, which will be livestreamed and broadcast to an international audience; understands that, as well as the main event, the festival will be launching a brand-new supper that will mix top cuisine with incredible cabaret, including reimaginings of the Pet Shop Boys and David Bowie; notes that this will be held at the Midsteeple Quarter; further notes that there will be party nights with Tom McGuire and The Brassholes, Bombskare and The Girobabies; acknowledges that there will be international artists playing at the festival, including Julian Taylor and the East Pointers from Canada, the Cinelli Brothers from Italy and the Belfast Community Gospel Choir; notes what it considers to be the exciting announcement that the festival will host the world’s first underwater Burns Supper at the DG One leisure centre; further notes that there will be a Big Burns Supper on a tour bus and a Burns-themed whisky tasting; congratulates all involved with the Big Burns Supper's planning and preparation on what it sees as their dedication to the festival and for the exciting 2025 programme; believes that the festival has a social, cultural and economic impact on Dumfries and the south west, and encourages all to go along to one of the many events.
