That the Parliament welcomes the news that Darvel has been shortlisted in the Scotland’s Town of the Year Category in the 2024 Scotland Loves Local Awards; understands the award seeks to recognise and reward the work undertaken by Scotland’s nations and neighbourhoods to become strong and more sustainable, and honour the innovation of organisations and enterprises that are driving economic success; commends the role of the Darvel and Area Regeneration Team in developing and improving the town and community of Darvel through projects such as The Corner, which hosts festivals, market days, tabletop sales, and acts as a space for community events and gatherings; further commends Bee’ing Better, which aims to improve green corridors for native insects through planting of native wildflowers, the Town Hall Transformation, which aims to modernise and develop the Town Hall through collaboration with East Ayrshire Leisure Trust, The Morton Park Project, which aims to redevelop the park into a space that can be used by families for generations in partnership with the Darvel Improvement Group and the Friends of Morton Park, and the Arts and Crafts Network, which collaborates with local crafters and artists to promote skills development and learning in a variety of creative activities; believes that the town of Darvel and its residents have gone above and beyond to make communities of all sizes better places in which to live, work and visit, while attracting investment and delivering change in their area; commends the work of those people to improve the Darvel area, and wishes Darvel well in the 2024 Scotland Loves Local Awards to be held in October 2024.
