  • Submitted by: Pam Gosal, West Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 23 September 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-14604

That the Parliament appreciates the efforts of submariners at the Faslane naval base for the Royal Navy’s reported 55-year record of continuous at-sea deterrence; notes that the visit to HM Naval Base Clyde by King Charles III was his first since ascending to the throne; understands that The King also took time to visit one of the Vanguard-class submarines, which deliver the nuclear deterrent, along with meeting submariners, their families and a group of gold deterrent pin holders, giving his personal thanks for their outstanding contribution; further understands that he was received onsite by First Sea Lord, Admiral Sir Ben Key KCB CBE, Commodore Paul Dunn OBE and Commodore Sharon Malkin, ADC naval base commander; appreciates that the special visit allowed families to be recognised for their dedicated service and highlighted what it sees as their importance in keeping the nation safe, and wishes the submariners the very best of success on all future deployments.
