West Lothian ranked third in Keep Scotland Beautiful's Spring Clean Campaign

  • Submitted by: Sue Webber, Lothian, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 20 September 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-14588

That the Parliament congratulates West Lothian Council on being ranked third in Scotland for its participation in the Keep Scotland Beautiful's annual Spring Clean campaign; understands that the whole community became involved throughout the year, with a total of 285 events registered, a total of 2,323 volunteers taking part, and 36 schools and 19 local businesses participating; notes that one of the schools that took part, Bankton Primary School, was recently visited by staff from the local authority’s Cleaner Communities Team to thank pupils and staff for their hard work, and demonstrated how to use some of the machinery deployed in their daily work to tackle litter across West Lothian; considers that the sheer number of people participating in the campaign demonstrated what it sees as the ever-growing understanding that littering blights the landscape and impacts everyone, and thanks the Cleaner Communities Team for supporting local volunteers such as the West Lothian Litter Pickers (WLLP) and for the team's ongoing efforts in spreading the anti-littering message all year round.
