That the Parliament congratulates The Ship in Irvine on being named the Dog Friendly Pub of the Year at the 2024 Scottish Pub and Bar Awards; understands that the winners attended a glittering Grand Ole Opry-themed event, held at the Doubletree Hilton in Glasgow on 27 August 2024; acknowledges that the awards, now in their 29th year, are Scotland’s longest-running licensed trade awards and celebrate the industry’s rising stars, customer service gurus and creative forces; understands that The Ship, previously known as The Ship Inn, is the oldest public house in Irvine, built in 1596, and that it has held a drinks licence as an inn since 1754; further understands that it is where Captain Brown famously told Robert Burns to go to Jamaica to seek his fortune; congratulates all at The Ship for their achievement, and wishes them continued success in the future.
