That the Parliament congratulates the Annan, The History Town team, on putting together a successful 2024 annual Gathering of the Clans, which was held on 24 August 2024; understands that the Gathering of the Clans featured a parade, led by eight clan chieftains and the Lord Lieutenant of Dumfriesshire, Fiona Armstrong, that went from the town centre to the showground at the Everholm Sports Complex, and notes that it was accompanied by the Annan Pipe Band as well as members of the South West Scotland Pipes and Drums Academy; notes that Chieftain of the Day, Dumfriesshire businessman, David Thomson, opened the gathering and that there was entertainment with a Scottish flavour and fun packed activities; understands that a unique feature of the day was the official inauguration of Clan Chief Carruthers, a ceremony which only occurs every several decades, and that there were tents and members of Clans: Carruthers, Irving, Hannay, Johnston, Arthur, MacLaine, McEwan and Armstrong; welcomes that the festival attracted hundreds of international visitors, including from the USA, Canada, Australia and South Africa, which brought welcome recognition and investment to the town of Annan, and thanks Chairman of the festival, Richard Brodie, and all involved for making the day such a success.
