That the Parliament congratulates Shambellie House in New Abbey, Dumfries and Galloway, on holding a successful Japanese Summer Festival over the weekend of 24-25 August 2024; understands that the festival was organised in partnership with the Japan Exchange and Teaching Alumni Association (JETAA) Scotland and supported by the Scotland Japanese Consulate General in Scotland, with Deputy Consul General Minori Ishii attending, the Japan Scotland Society, and the Japanese Local Government Centre (JLGC) London; commends the organisers of the festival for creating an interactive experience of Japanese culture, including archery, bonsai, karate, calligraphy, origami, quilted designed, traditional clothing such as yukatas and kimonos, and even Clan Sumo Scotland; understands that local Dumfries business, Sushi City, provided the delicious traditional food, including sashimi, sushi, wasabi and more; further understands that Shambellie House, named from the Gaelic "sean baile", meaning "old settlement", has an important place in the history of Dumfries and Galloway, and wishes everyone who was involved in the Japanese Summer Festival, and the many participants in and leaders of events and courses at Shambellie House, every good wish as they ensure that Shambellie, New Abbey and the surrounding area continue to be the special places that they have been for more than 800 years.
