Women Sewing their Way to Save the NHS Money and Energy Receive Green Star Award

  • Submitted by: Alexander Burnett, Aberdeenshire West, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 29 July 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-13955

That the Parliament congratulates NHS Grampian’s in-house sewing team, which received the Green Star Award for setting a leading example of how others could make do and mend, saving huge amounts of energy and money; notes that the NHS board’s laundry service quality checks around 145,000 items of bedding, towels, curtains and other items coming through the laundry every week, including 35,000 sets of scrubs, and repairs or repurposes hundreds of items; believes that the team is the backbone of the organisation and that services regularly reach out for help, with the sewing team working on specialist suits for burns patients one day to adjusting decontamination suits the next; commends the talented tailors for their impact on the environment on behalf of the NHS Grampian, which, it understands, is one of the last NHS boards in Scotland to benefit from an in-house sewing team, and wishes the team continued success in its work.
