NHS Borders Welcomes Newest Cohort of GP Fellows

  • Submitted by: Christine Grahame, Midlothian South, Tweeddale and Lauderdale, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 25 June 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-13775

That the Parliament welcomes the newest cohort of four GP Fellows to NHS Borders, as part of a new scheme to attract recently qualified GPs to the region; understands that the GP Fellowship is being offered to all GPs in their first five years to help them kick-start their careers by giving them opportunities to work in primary care and the out-of-hours service, alongside dedicated time for pursuing personal clinical interests of the GPs themselves; further understands that this takes place while working in a host practice, developing both general and specific skills relevant to general practice work, as well as helping to gain further understanding of general practice as a business; believes that such schemes are helpful in attracting new GPs and, in turn, ensuring the provision of primary care for patients, and notes that full details of the scheme are available on the NHS Borders website for anyone who is interested.
