That the Parliament welcomes the grand return of the Melrose Book Festival in 2024; understands that from 13 to 16 June 2024, Harmony Garden in Melrose was buzzing with excitement as a huge host of names from the world of literature and broadcast descend on the Borders village for the four-day festival; notes that some of the big names in literature who headed to Melrose included David Nicholls, author of One Day, The Great British Sewing Bee presenter Patrick Grant, former Home Secretary Alan Johnson, and Second World War historian James Holland, and big names of broadcast, including broadcaster Robert Peston, BBC anchors Clive Myrie and Rory Cellan-Jones, and presenter Louise Minchin; understands that planning the Melrose Book Festival is no easy task; gives its thanks to the organisers of the event, in particular the festival’s director, Alistair Moffat, and notes what it sees as the importance of the book festival in drawing in visitors from far and wide, which ultimately contributes to the important local economy of the Borders.
