  • Submitted by: Paul Sweeney, Glasgow, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 17 June 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-13666

That the Parliament congratulates Leadership, Equality and Active Participation in Sports for LGBTI+ people in Scotland (LEAP Sports Scotland) on the 11th edition of its annual LGBTIQ+ sports festival, Festival Fortnight, taking place from 17 to 30 June 2024; understands that the festival grows bigger each year with more than 100 events reaching over 1,200 people across the fortnight taking place all over the country from Durness and Inverness to Ayrshire and across the Central Belt; believes that grassroots initiatives, such as Festival Fortnight, are imperative in reducing barriers to participation of LGBTIQ+ people within sport and physical activity; notes the aims of Festival Fortnight as increasing visibility and participation of LGBTIQ+ people in sport as well as raising awareness of equality and human rights issues in sport, and wishes LEAP Sports Scotland success in the further upcoming events over the summer, including the first ever Qeltic Games being held in Perth.
