Waverley Paddle Steamer Awarded National Flagship of the Year

  • Submitted by: Stuart McMillan, Greenock and Inverclyde, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 14 June 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-13624

That the Parliament recognises that the Waverley paddle steamer has been named National Historic Ships UK’s National Flagship of the Year; understands that this accolade is in recognition of the Waverley’s ambitious cruising programme around the UK, during which she is scheduled to visit 70 ports and/or piers; applauds the efforts of the staff and volunteers at Waverley Excursions for their marketing plan and high level of outreach across all major social media platforms, which help to support the Waverley’s cruising activities; appreciates that 2024 marks the 50th anniversary since the Waverley was gifted for £1, and, to mark this occasion, the ship will boast new display boards, activity leaflets and provide a range of special offers; believes that constituents of the Greenock and Inverclyde constituency are very proud of the Waverley and enjoy seeing her cruise up and down the Clyde just as much as tourists, and encourages anyone who has yet to enjoy one of her many sailings to consider booking a trip this summer so she can continue to bring joy to passengers and onlookers for years to come.
