  • Submitted by: Gillian Mackay, Central Scotland, Scottish Green Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 12 June 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-13618

That the Parliament acknowledges that the RISE Festival North Lanarkshire is taking place on 15 June 2024 in Cumbernauld town centre; understands that this will form part of the Refugee Festival Scotland 2024 and will be a fun-filled afternoon that will celebrate the local area’s diverse and welcoming communities by shining a light on the cultural richness of North Lanarkshire; further understands that the day will incorporate a range of activities, music, and entertainment, including games, arts and crafts, face painting, a live DJ, friendly chat, and other family focussed initiatives; understands that the Refugee Festival Scotland, taking place from 14 to 23 June, is an annual showcase of different events across the country that profile community diversity and different cultures through celebrating food and drink, music and poetry, art, dance, language and ideas that people bring with them when they settle in Scotland, and believes that spotlighting cultural diversity through the RISE Festival can have lasting positive impacts on social cohesion through promoting mutual respect and empathy across the community and investing in the social fabric of North Lanarkshire.
