The Open University in Scotland

  • Submitted by: Meghan Gallacher, Central Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 10 June 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-13551

That the Parliament recognises the Open University in Scotland and the contribution that it makes to Scotland's social and economic wellbeing through its delivery of flexible, part-time higher education; notes that it has just under 20,000 students across Scotland, with 2,110 studying in the Central Scotland region, three-quarters of whom combine work and study, which it understands makes it the largest provider of part-time higher education, and recognises the Open University in Scotland's collaborative work with other universities, colleges, businesses, local authorities, the NHS and the third sector in delivering multiple programmes to provide skills, and widen access to further education as well as employability across the country.
