Cathcart Circle Rail Line

  • Submitted by: Patrick Harvie, Glasgow, Scottish Green Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 05 June 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-13476

That the Parliament welcomes ScotRail’s decision to increase the number of evening services from Glasgow to Neilston, Newton, and Cathcart Circle from hourly to half-hourly; believes that altering transport habits is crucial to tackling the climate emergency and that greater use of the Glasgow’s suburban rail network will play a huge part in that modal shift; further believes that the nationalised railway must work for the needs of all communities and that services must be frequent, reliable, accessible, safe and affordable; notes the reported challenges with accessibility at Glasgow train stations and is committed to extending accessibility across the network; recognises the need to address safety concerns of vulnerable users on board and at stations, and believes that the reported three-month extension to the pilot programme of scrapping peak rail fares should be made permanent.
