Saving the Trade Union Education Centre at City of Glasgow College

  • Submitted by: Pam Duncan-Glancy, Glasgow, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 05 June 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-13469
  • Current status: Achieved cross-party support

That the Parliament is concerned by proposals to close the Trade Union Education Centre at City of Glasgow College; understands that the Centre was formed in 1992, originally as part of Stow College in Glasgow and that, over the years, it has seen thousands of students enrol on its course; recognises what it sees as the vital role of trade union education in supporting workers' representation and rights; believes that, if it closes, a number of staff face losing their jobs; recognises what it sees as the important role the Centre has played in building the trade union voices of today and for the next generation of workers' representatives, and notes the calls for the threat of closure to be lifted.
