  • Submitted by: Collette Stevenson, East Kilbride, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 11 June 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-13430

That the Parliament notes that East Kilbride’s Laura Eggo was invited to be guest of honour at May 2024's Race for Life in Glasgow; understands that Laura survived breast cancer after being diagnosed just months before her 40th birthday, and underwent successful treatment and is now in remission; further understands that around 34,600 people are diagnosed with cancer every year in Scotland; observes that 6,600 people took part in this year’s race for life in Glasgow, and that they heard a pre-recorded message from Laura offering words of courage before the race; commends the Glasgow race participants for raising over £750,000, which it hopes will enable scientists to find new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, helping to save more lives, and congratulates Laura and her husband, Brian, on also running the 10k race and raising over £2,000.
