That the Parliament notes that East Kilbride’s Claremont Parish Church has used fundraising from its Spring Fair to purchase a life-saving defibrillator for the community; congratulates the church, which serves its congregation in St Leonards, East Kilbride, for raising £3,800 at the fair, £1,400 of which will be used to purchase the defibrillator; understands that the fair offered activities for all the family, including a visit from Princesses Elsa and Cinderella, alongside visits from the fire and ambulance services and the residents of Davaar, who put on an impressive plant sale; observes that the local community came out in force for the event, and that the organisers thanked everyone who helped on the day; understands that around 3,500 people in Scotland undergo attempted resuscitation each year after an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, but that currently only around one in 12 survive, and considers that community defibrillators are vitally important to saving lives, as they play a crucial role in shortening the time from collapse to first shock for the general public, therefore reducing the likelihood of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest leading to death.
