That the Parliament congratulates East Kilbride’s Nathan Young on being selected to represent Team UK in Mechanical Engineering CAD at the WorldSkills competition, which takes place in Lyon, France, from 10-15 September 2024; believes that being selected is a superb achievement, and that it represents a once in a lifetime opportunity for Nathan to compete globally in their chosen skill; understands that Nathan has studied at New College Lanarkshire and is attending the University of the West of Scotland; further understands that Nathan excelled at the WorldSkills UK’s national competition finals, after dedicating themselves to an intensive training programme, in addition to their study commitments; notes that Nathan will join three other Scottish competitors amongst 1,500 young people from 65 nations, who will compete in 62 different skill areas for the chance of winning a medal; understands that WorldSkills UK will also use the international skills competition to gather insights in order to raise the standards in technical education and apprenticeships in Scotland; considers that these actions can help more young people get access to highly skilled, high-wage jobs, as well as help employers secure a pipeline of world-class skills they need in order to grow; believes that the work of WorldSkills UK can also help attract more international firms eager to secure global talent to Scotland, and wishes Nathan the best of luck in the competition and in their future mechanical engineering ventures.
