£35,000 Raised for Cardiac Risk in the Young Screening in Memory of Aiden Joyce

  • Submitted by: Keith Brown, Clackmannanshire and Dunblane, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 30 May 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-13378

That the Parliament commends Lorraine and Campbell Joyce, and their family and friends, on raising over £35,000 over the past year to raise awareness of Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY); recognises this has been done in memory of their son, Aiden, who tragically passed away from sudden cardiac death in March 2023; notes that £12,000 of the money was used to fund cardiac screenings, which took place in Alva Academy on 25 and 26 May 2024, for 186 young people in Clackmannanshire, where Aiden grew up; further notes that, as a result of this, 12 young people have been referred for further investigations, which could be potentially life-saving; believes that further screenings have already been arranged for 10 and 11 May 2025; understands that the intention is to continue to raise enough money to host this event on an annual basis, and wishes Lorraine and Campbell every success in their future fundraising ventures for such a worthy cause and lasting memory of Aiden.
