  • Submitted by: Monica Lennon, Central Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 21 May 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-13287

That the Parliament congratulates Hilltop Primary School, in Airdrie, on being crowned national champion in a litter-picking competition for youngsters across Scotland; recognises that environmental charity Keep Scotland Beautiful’s Litter League is an initiative aimed at getting children and young people more involved in tackling litter; commends the young people for carrying out two clean-ups, where they collected 83 bags of litter; notes that the Litter League competition formed part of the charity’s annual #Springcleanscotland challenge; further notes that the Airdrie school received the regional prize in the inaugural competition in 2023; understands that 5,864 young people, supported by more than 1,000 adults, took part in the 2024 competition and completed 185 clean-ups across 30 local authority areas, and applauds everyone involved for their continued efforts in tackling what it sees as the damage that litter is doing to local communities and the environment.
