That Parliament welcomes the launch of the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) North, West and Hebrides college, a new college for Scotland formed from the merger of UHI North Highland, UHI Outer Hebrides and UHI West Highland colleges; considers that the new college creates an anchor institution, connecting rural and island communities through distinctive education, training and research shaped by the culture, location and landscapes of the north and west Highlands, Skye, and Outer Hebrides; notes what it sees as the exciting possibilities for the future, with students, staff, and partners engaged in education and training that is deeply rooted in the culture, location, and landscapes of these locations; understands that UHI North, West and Hebrides will support around 9,000 enrolled students, spread across 19 campuses and centres and covering an area the size of Wales; believes that the distinctive new college will educate, train, and inspire, offering flexible learning opportunities supported by digital innovation to suit more people, at more levels, for more reasons, and considers that the college will provide a skills pipeline for key sectors, including renewable energy, net zero, space, engineering and advanced manufacturing, environmental science, land and sea, tourism, food and drink, creative industries and Gaelic.
