Congratulating Paul Evangelista

  • Submitted by: Neil Bibby, West Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 22 December 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-07291

That the Parliament congratulates Paul Evangelista on his retirement after working as a barber for 50 years; recognises that Paul was the third generation of the Evangelista family to venture into barbering, following in the footsteps of his father, Adolpho, and his grandfather, Angelo; understands that Angelo was born in Rome in 1891, arrived in Scotland during the 1920s and learned the trade by cutting the hair of his loved ones; notes that the family ran successful barber shops in Linthouse and Govan before Paul opened his own in Johnstone in 1972, and that Paul has passed down his hairdressing skills to both of his own sons, who both run their own shops; recognises that Paul is also leaving behind a legacy of committed environmentalism through the setting up of the charitable organisation, Worldcare, which was involved in recycling materials to raise significant amounts of money for St Vincent’s Hospice in Howwood, and, in 1992, received a prestigious environmental award, the Shell Best of Better Britain, Scotland; understands that Paul now plans to spend more time embracing nature and travelling the length and breadth of Scotland with his wife of 46 years, and wishes him well in his retirement.
