Pakistan Flooding 2022

  • Submitted by: Kaukab Stewart, Glasgow Kelvin, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 06 September 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-05846

That the Parliament expresses its sympathy and solidarity with the people of Pakistan as they continue to experience what it understands to be extreme monsoon rains, which have led to flash flooding; understands that approximately one third of the country is underwater, and that at least 1,100 people have died and around one in seven Pakistanis – around 33 million people – are affected, with over one million homes destroyed or badly damaged, leaving many people homeless and exposed to the elements; further understands that nearly one million livestock have been lost and crops washed away; notes the Scottish Government's commitment to Pakistan as one of its four main partners for International Aid, and trusts that the Scottish Government will do all that it can to support Pakistan as a matter of urgency, and with ongoing support to overcome what it believes may be a devastating legacy from these extreme weather events.
