Nicholas Russell’s 500-mile Walk

  • Submitted by: Jenny Gilruth, Mid Fife and Glenrothes, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 20 September 2018
  • Motion reference: S5M-14041

That the Parliament commends the efforts of Nicholas Russell, the owner of the Balbirnie House Hotel in Markinch, and five other volunteers, for preparing to embark on a 500-mile walk, beginning at Portree and ending in Edinburgh, in a bid to bring attention to electoral reform; understands that the volunteers hope that the introduction of blockchain technology will provide a basis for wider voter participation in Scotland and could prove crucial in any future votes on issues such as Brexit and a second independence referendum; notes that the 500-mile walk was opened by Ian Blackford MP on 15 September 2018 and is expected to end on 6 October at the Parliament, and wishes all of the volunteers the best of luck on the rest of the journey.
