To ask the Scottish Government when it plans to publish the second annual report of the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education and Training Strategy for Scotland.

The second annual report of the STEM Education and Training Strategy will be published on the Scottish Government website later today: https://www.gov.scot/isbn/9781839605758

The report shows that the Strategy, now in its third year, is delivering excellence in STEM learning and teaching, providing equity of access to STEM education, inspiring children, young people and adults to study STEM and follow STEM careers and building connections between education and employers.

To ask the Scottish Government what it is doing to ensure that safety messaging is accessible for disabled people.

The Scottish Government recognises the importance of safety messages being accessible to disabled people. We support the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents and the Child Accident Prevention Trust to provide effective and appropriate safety messaging. We also support RoSPA to provide the secretariat to the Scottish Parliament’s Cross Party Group on Accident Prevention and Safety Awareness. I understand that the Group is discussing ‘safety and impairment’ at the next meeting and I look forward to hearing about any outcomes from this discussion.

To ask the Scottish Government what discussions it has had with the UK Government regarding the economic impact assessment of the EU Withdrawal Agreement and how this applies to Scotland.

The Scottish Government is not aware of any formal impact assessment having been done by the UK Government on the EU Withdrawal Agreement and we are not aware that any assessment has been carried out on how this would apply to Scotland.

The Scottish Government has been clear that the Prime Minister’s deal will make Scotland poorer and hit jobs and living standards. This is a worse deal than the one Theresa May negotiated, and a basic trade agreement of the type the Prime Minister wants to negotiate will cost Scotland’s economy the equivalent of £1,600 per person compared with EU membership.

To ask the Scottish Government how it is marking Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month.

This afternoon I will be attending a photo-call to mark pancreatic cancer awareness month and the Scottish Government will be lighting our buildings purple on 21 November in support and would urge other businesses to do similar.

Our referral guidelines were updated in January to support GPs to be more aware of the potential signs and symptoms of cancer including pancreatic and earlier this year I met with Pancreatic Cancer campaigners and medical professionals to discuss pancreatic cancer services in Scotland. As a result of this meeting, I committed to examining the results of an ongoing Clinician led audit into pancreatic cancer services throughout Scotland and will discuss the findings later this month.
