To ask the Scottish Government what action it is taking to reduce the incidence of the (a) early and (b) late onset of group B streptococcus infection in pregnancy.
Answer
NHS boards in Scotland are expected to follow professional guidance issued by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG).
Healthcare professionals will have undergone extensive training and education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels to specified curricula standards, including being assessed on competencies in diagnosis and treatments. These curricula will have been developed by relevant Royal Colleges, and approved by the respective regulators. Post-qualification, all healthcare professionals are expected to participate in CPD activities to maintain their skills and knowledge, and Health boards do release staff to undertake such activities.
The RCOG in partnership with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine is currently carrying out a recruitment process to recruit a clinical research fellow to carry out an audit across the UK. It will aim to provide feedback and advice to those participating, including Scottish units, about how they can further improve their adherence to the RCOG guidelines on the prevention of neonatal GBS disease.

To ask the Scottish Government what recent discussions it has had with energy suppliers regarding increases in gas and electricity prices.
Answer
Rising energy prices are a huge concern for all of us in this chamber, and across the country. I won’t be alone in having been contacted by constituents who are angry at these increases and worried about their ability to meet these costs. The Scottish Government has had discussions with Scotland’s energy suppliers, in particular about the need for greater transparency over price increases and a commitment to protect those most in need. The Scottish Government remains determined to help householders stay warm and reduce their energy bills, and will continue our work with councils and energy companies to tackle fuel poverty.

To ask the Scottish Government, if it buys Glasgow Prestwick Airport, whether it will produce a long-term plan for its development and, if so, when.
Answer
The member has also submitted questions S4W-17903, S4W-17904 and S4W-17908 and this response covers those questions.
The Scottish Government is currently undertaking due diligence with the intention of purchasing Glasgow Prestwick airport and analysis of employment and infrastructure issues are key components of the exercise. Simultaneous to due diligence, we are also developing a business plan for the airport which would guide our ownership in the short, medium and longer-term, our ambition to return the airport to profit as quickly as possible and deliver a commercial return on the significant investment we will be making at Prestwick. Our aim is for the transaction on ownership to be complete by 20 November. As the Deputy First Minister indicated in her statement on 8 October, we will keep Parliament fully informed on developments, including on those matters referred to in these questions.
