Parliamentary questions can be asked by any MSP to the Scottish Government or the Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body. The questions provide a means for MSPs to get factual and statistical information.

Written questions must be answered within 10 working days (20 working days during recess)

To ask the Scottish Government what steps it is taking to close the gender gap in relation to active participants in sport across all age groups.

Realising our vision of a more active Scotland means that everyone should have access to opportunities to be active, regardless of gender, and the Scottish Government is committed to doing more to promote women’s participation and promotion in sport.

In 2016, the First Minister announced that we are establishing a £300,000 Sporting Equality Fund, which is a manifesto commitment. This fund is aimed at increasing the participation, engagement, and promotion of women in sport and will complement the wider range of activities being delivered by sportscotland and others to address inequalities in sport.

To understand and remove barriers to women’s participation in sport, sportscotland are establishing an Equality in Sport and Physical Activity Forum, and are also working with sports governing bodies to increase women’s representation at all levels of the sporting system through the implementation of the Equality Standard.
