To ask the Scottish Government how much it will cost to provide LGBTI+ education training to teachers, and what support it will provide to (a) local authorities and (b) external organisations to organise this.

The Delivery Plan for Equity and Excellence in Scottish education makes clear our commitment to review initial teacher education programmes to ensure they provide appropriate detail on equality across both primary and secondary sectors; and that we will also work with the General Teaching Council Scotland to provide more support for teachers on equality issues through career long professional learning.

In addition, the newly formed LGBTI Inclusive Education Working Group will help inform work around these important areas of teacher training.

The range of training options available to, and accessed by, teachers means that this information is not held centrally.

To ask the Scottish Government what discussions it has had or plans with (a) the social care sector and (b) registered charities regarding the implementation of the apprenticeship levy.

Despite the UK Government introducing the Apprenticeship Levy tax on employers without any consultation, we have taken time to speak with those affected including representatives of social care and registered charities sectors. Cabinet agreed to consult on the Scottish Government’s response to the introduction of the UK Government’s Apprenticeship Levy and the consultation findings were used to inform spending review discussions.

The Social Care sector and registered charities took part in the consultation and are also represented on the Scottish Apprenticeship Advisory Board.

Skills Development Scotland (SDS) Employer Engagement Teams continue to engage with Third Sector/Social care organisations. SDS also attends the Third Sector Forum and its Advisory Group, advising and reporting on a wide range of SDS-related activities including Employability Fund (EF) and Modern Apprenticeships (MAs) which includes the Levy.

I will continue to engage with employers, including the social care sector and registered charities, as well as the Scottish Apprenticeship Advisory Board to make sure their views can continue to shape the policies that will help people enter and remain in the labour market and contribute to the Scottish economy.

To ask the Scottish Government what the impact would be of removing statutory training costs from social care sector businesses prior to the implementation of the apprenticeship levy.

To meet their requirements under the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) Codes of Practice and the National Care Standards, employers are required to ensure that their staff have the necessary skills and knowledge to undertake their roles and continuously update their skills to reflect changes in policy and practice. Information on the costs of training is not held centrally.

The introduction of the UK Government's apprenticeship levy does not affect the requirement on employers to meet their statutory responsibilities for training their staff.
