To ask the Scottish Executive what its position is on the Scottish National Standards for Information and Advice Providers.
Answer
The standards have seen a large number of agencies, including almost all of the Citizens Advice Bureaux, improve the quality of their housing, money and welfare benefits information and advice services. The standards have also encouraged local authorities to increase access to this advice across Scotland. This is particularly welcome in the Islands and more rural areas where there was an unmet need. We have seen a number of advice agencies work together to provide peer support throughout Scotland. The Scottish Government is continuing to encourage agencies to work to the standards to drive up the quality of their information and advice services.
