To ask the Scottish Government, in light of the impact of gambling on communities, what its position is on whether licensed betting shops should be included in the updated EU money laundering directive, and what discussions it has had with the UK Government regarding this matter.
Answer
Gambling is a reserved matter and it is therefore for the UK Government to consider the regulation of betting shops. The Scottish Government would like to see substantive devolution of powers over gambling in order that it can regulate the industry effectively.
We have had no specific discussions with the UK Government on this matter.
