To ask the Scottish Government what steps it is taking to ensure that custody units and prisons provide the necessary and appropriate support for people with mental health conditions.

Action 15 within the Mental Health Strategy outlines our clear commitment to funding 800 additional mental health workers in key settings, including custody suites and prisons, ensuring that local provision and support is at the heart of our plans. Funding for this commitment will reach £35 million by 2022.

It is vital that this investment has the greatest possible impact and acts as a catalyst for joint working between Health and Justice services. Therefore, the Scottish Government has asked the Health and Justice Collaboration Improvement Board to develop recommendations on how to achieve this by its next meeting on 27 March.

To ask the Scottish Government whether it will provide an update on the progress that it is making with its work in resettling refugees and asylum seekers.

Scotland continues to welcome asylum seekers, who arrive in Glasgow under the Home Office’s asylum dispersal programme, and Scottish local authorities have now received over 1,900 refugees under the Syrian Resettlement Programme.

We are working with our partners, including COSLA and the Scottish Refugee Council, to develop the next New Scots refugee integration strategy for publication in early 2018. Over 2,000 people participated in engagement during the summer to inform the strategy, including over 700 refugees and asylum seekers.

To ask the Scottish Government what efforts it is making to expand local sports initiatives.

The Scottish Government is committed to increasing rates of physical activity and wants to see a Scotland where more people are more active more of the time.

There are now more and better opportunities for everyone to participate in sport and physical activity right across Scotland. There are now 179 community sport hubs up and running and sportscotland, our national agency for sport, is on course to reach the target of 200 hubs by 2020. We are taking action to drive change for women and girls in sport through our first ever Scottish Women and Girls in Sport Week, and creating a Women and Girls in Sport Advisory Board.

A good example of a local initiative being expanded is The Daily Mile. Created in Stirling, the Scottish Government is encouraging people of all ages to walk, jog or run a mile and that Scotland becomes the first Daily Mile Nation.
