Scottish Enterprise (SE) and Scottish Development International (SDI) are continuing to work closely in partnership with Scottish Power, owners of the former Longannet Power Station in Fife, as they formalise their strategy for future use of the site. SE and SDI will continue to introduce enquiries to the company where they fit with the site’s attributes and potential for development.

The Scottish Government has had no recent discussions with Talgo with regards to its proposed investment at Longannet, which was tied to its bid to construct trains for HS2.While Talgo was one of the shortlisted potential suppliers of HS2 trains in a procurement competition run by HS2 Ltd (over which the Scottish Government had no control), it was subsequently excluded from the competition removing the underpinning reason for Talgo’s investment. Team Scotland is open to having discussions with Talgo regarding any potential investment at Longannet, or indeed anywhere in Scotland, and Scottish Enterprise remain engaged with Scottish Power (owners of Longannet) around enquiries about potential development of the site.

Vaccine safety is of the utmost importance and we continue to follow the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) guidance. All vaccines available in Scotland have been approved by the MHRA as safe and effective.

The MHRA operates the Yellow Card scheme which collects and monitors information on suspected concerns or incidents involving vaccines and publishes a summary of this online.

The Scottish Government does not hold this data. Whilst there is data available on numbers of patients who receive blood transfusions each year, the majority of these patients would be unlikely to be able to donate blood due to underlying health conditions, even if they had not received a transfusion.

In 2004, the UK Advisory Committee on Microbiological Safety of Blood and Tissues for Transplantation (MSBT) advised that people who have received a blood transfusion since 1980 should no longer be allowed to donate blood in order to reduce the risks of transmission of variant Creutzfeldt-Jacob disease (vCJD) via a blood transfusion. The then Scottish Executive accepted those recommendations.

The Scottish Government now takes its advice on blood safety from the Advisory Committee on the Safety of Blood, Tissues and Organs (SaBTO), which has replaced MSBT as the expert Committee advising Ministers on these matters. This matter is therefore for SaBTO to advise on and they have not suggested that this policy should change. In 2019, SaBTO advised (in its Paediatric Components Working Group report) that certain measures originally implemented to reduce risks of transmission of vCJD were no longer required; however, it advised that all other vCJD risk reduction measures should remain in place.

Data is not held centrally on the number of cases reported since 1996 for Creutzfeldt-Jacob Disease (CJD). The number of deaths of individuals with definite or probable CJD since 1996 is 232.

Following completion of an innovative co-creative process with the community, work to assess four route options, including the community’s preferred route option, is ongoing. A preferred route is expected to be announced later this year. Once a preferred route option is announced a timetable for the statutory processes will be set. It is necessary that the correct statutory process is followed to ensure a fair and transparent assessment of options and impacts on local communities and road users.

Work is ongoing to determine the most suitable procurement options, when the statutory process is complete, for the remaining sections of the A9 dualling. This is a complex exercise which looks at a number of factors including how the project can be delivered most efficiently by the industry, whilst minimising disruption to road users and helping to support economic recovery post-COVID. An update on the outcomes of this complex piece of work will be provided when the work is completed.
