Tables showing 30 daymortality have been placed in the Scottish Parliament Information Centre (Bib. number 39853). Therates have been adjusted for age, sex and deprivation categories of patients, buthave not been risk adjusted and do not take account of how ill or frail thepatients presenting for surgery had been. There is also no adjustment for thecomplexity of the operation performed. Some indicators with a narrower focuscan be found at: www.isdscotland.org/quality_improvement.

Table 1 details the numberof new clients aged 16 and under, who, when accessing drug treatment andrehabilitation services, reported that they had used cocaine in the last monthfor each of the last five years.

Analysis of annual staff turnoverand retention trends can be used to estimate the number of staff leaving NHS Scotlandin 2006.

Table 2 shows the percentageof nurses and midwives who were in substantive posts at 30 September and who werestill in substantive posts in NHS Scotland a year later. It demonstrates an averageannual retention rate of 92.8% between 2001 and 2005. We expect this trend to continuein 2006-07.

Table 3 shows the percentageof nurses and midwives who were in substantive posts at 30 September and who werestill in substantive posts in NHS Scotland two years later. It demonstrates an averageretention rate of 89% between 2001 and 2006. We expect this trend to continue in2006-07.

It is not possible to answerthis question from the data held centrally. The Executive’s firm-level database(Inter-Departmental Business Register) contains data on the number of enterpriseslocated in Scotland, but does not record the number who have relocated.

Legal aid debts arise underfour main headings: contributions payable by persons granted civil legal aid; moniespayable in respect of terminations of legal aid; expenses payable by opponents ofpersons granted civil legal aid, and payments to the Legal Aid Fund from winnings.

At 31 March 2006 there was an outstandingdebt of £10.265 million. This amount will fluctuate as some of it is repaid anddebts arise from the four main headings.

The Scottish Legal Aid Boardcan and does take any reasonable and necessary enforcement steps, by way of civildiligence or other available measures, to recover the sums owed to the Legal AidFund in respect of the costs of any legal aid.

We have no centrally-held reliabledata on breach rate of Antisocial Behaviour Orders. Research on the Use of AntisocialBehaviour Orders in Scotland attempted to examine this but current data recordingpractices mean that the data is incomplete. A survey of local authorities undertakenin the research suggests that, nationally, 26% of orders are allegedly breached.

In total, 2,375 Drug Treatmentand Testing Orders (DTTOs) have been imposed in Scotland and 829 of these ordershave been successfully completed to end March 2006.

The number of successful completionsis set in the context that many of the DTTO schemes have been established withinthe past two years and that DTTOs are imposed for an average period of 18 monthsto two years. A significant proportion of all orders imposed have not thereforeyet reached the stage where they could have been completed.

The expenditure on informationtechnology by each NHS board in each year from 2002-03 is shown in the followingtable. Figures relate to capital spending only, as revenue expenditure informationis not held centrally.
