The Executive welcomes initiatives where by the support of business helps to advance its education and lifelong objectives. But such initiatives are appropriately a matter for those businesses and for the educational institutions with which they engage.

To ask the Scottish Executive what plans it has to encourage the development of insulin pens that only contain small doses so that young children can manage their diabetes more independently than by the use of syringes.
Answer
Insulin pens suitable foryoung children are readily available and being used without any problems bypaediatric units in Scotland.

Answer
Scottish DevelopmentInternational does not keep records of how many jobs are created by individualinward investors in a given year. The published figures reflect the number ofjobs which a company plans to create or safeguard at the time its decision toinvest in Scotland was made. The published figures refer only toprojects in which Scottish Development International and its partners can claimto have had a significant involvement in ensuring that the project takes placein Scotland. The following figures relate to projects where acompany has made a decision to invest or expand and where the main activity of the project is manufacturing. Not all jobs created by a manufacturing projectare necessarily manufacturing jobs.

To ask the Scottish Executive, with regard to target 1 of the Tourism, Culture and Sport chapter of its draft budget 2004-05, what proportion of adults currently takes part in sport, broken down by sporting activity.
Answer
Data for the sport elementof target 1 will be measured using data collected by NFO WorldGroup (previouslyundertaken under the name System Three) as part of their omnibus householdsurvey, the Scottish Opinion Survey. The most recent data available relates toparticipation levels in 2000-02. The proportion of adults taking part in sportand physical recreation over this period was 62% and the breakdown by sportingactivity is set out in the table:
